China Hutch Turned Cabinet

I picked up this 2 piece china hutch for free off of a garage sale type app. Originally when I found the listing I was only wanting to lower portion of the chest. The cabinet that made up the bottom half of the china hutch are the types of pieces that sell well for me that most people find functional. They work for so many different uses from a buffet, entry cabinet, changing table, tv/media console, etc. Seriously so many uses!
The top portion had awesome, original vintage brass hardware. I love the glass doors since the cabinet can be used to display things, or the door could be wallpapered in a cool wallpaper (grasscloth anyone!?) if you weren't storing something pretty. There's also a neat curve to the piece.
First I had to lift it off the ground by adding some simple legs. I picked up the legs from the hardware store and they make it feel more like a furniture piece than the top of a hutch.
The bottom half of the hutch is a cool cabinet that will be a project for another time. I'm thinking I'll spray it with gloss lacquer when the weather warms up.
I painted the cabinet in a pretty warm gray color and shines up the brass hardware. The interior was left wood which adds so much warmth! Read more about this piece on my blog. Plus, learn about bleed through and how I deal with it and what I've learned from experience.

I like the color you chose but am not sold on the inside, feels unfinished. It's funny that it's really hard to imagine these 2 pieces together in original form. The bottom would make such a great TV Stand with drawers for remotes. I do love the top for a display of one's favorite things but they will be dark. Can you add lights to the shelves although white paint would make things pop.

I love it just the way you've done it. The contrast between the grey and the richness of the interior wood gives it a classical, expensive look.
