  Azaleas and rhododendrons do well in part shade, many Hydrangea's are hardy and love shaded areas. But check with a local nursery for the best advice....NE has varied growing zones .

Hydrangea for zones 4 to 9.

Forsythia are pretty bright yellow and are perennial. Google also for your exact location and 'zone'.
