Mom was tired of her primitive/country decor theme and wanted a change. She wanted the "Joanna Gaines look" and who better to help her "gain" that look then her very own "Joanne". LOL

Mom already had the wrought iron scrolls. She bought the cream Fleur De Lys off of Kijiji and I gave them all a new backdrop to make them pop.

Its a pretty way to dress up simple wall decor and give it that "Joanna -- Fixer Upper" look, don't you think?

(Please excuse the very poor quality of this photo.)

The first thing I did was to measure the width and height of the scrolls and added 2" to both measurements. That was the goal size for the new backdrop. I then cut some scrap lumber we already had to size.

I Kreg-Jegged each board to each other on the backs and then sanded them all over just enough to eliminate the chance of splinters. I stained them one coat of General Finishes American Oak Gel Stain. After leaving them a day to dry, we hung them using regular picture hangers mounted to the backs.

Not having enough scrap lumber, I purchased cheap framing lumber at Home Depot (of course, I had to dig through the pile to find the ones in the best shape). This was the cheapest way to go and I got all the lumber for around $15.
Again, I used the  Kreg Jig for the back boards and I screwed the top two boards on top.  It is hung mainly from the hangers on the back.  The fancy wall hook is from Michaels as well as the rope.  We used d-ring picture hangers on the front (painted with black nail polish) and tied the rope to those. The Fleur De Lys is simply mounted to the backdrop just as you would to the wall . . by a screw.
