How to Build a Farmhouse Table and Bench (Yes, You Can Do It!)

This was my FIRST EVER project using a Kreg Jig. If the $100 price of a Kreg Jig is deterring you, did you know they sell a mini Jig for only $19? Building a table is easier than you think...
The tabletop is made from 1" x 12"x8' boards, sanded and stained with Minwax Dark Walnut stain.
The legs are made with 4x4s, with 2x4s running between them. To have the legs angled instead of straight, just cut each leg at a 10-degree angle on the top and bottom. To make the tabletop look thicker, attach 1x2s around the perimeter of the underside of the top.
The bench is just a mini version of the table. The seat is made from a 2"x12"x6' with 4x4s for legs.
Another view of the bench. If you'd like a wider bench you could use two 8" boards instead of one 12". Depending on the size of table you want, you can adjust all measurements.
STEP 1: Cut and sand all boards.
STEP 2: Wipe each board with Minwax wood conditioner (if you don't use this, your project will be splotchy). Wait 10 min and wipe down.
STEP 3: Use a rag or old t-shirt to wipe on Minwax Dark Walnut stain. If you'd like something a bit lighter, Special Walnut is also a great color. If you'd like it darker, do a 2nd coat of stain.
STEP 4: Drill pocket holes using a Kreg Jig.
STEP 5: Build table top by joining all the 12" boards, then using the 1x2s to build a boarder around the bottom side of the tabletop.
STEP 6: Attach legs and support pieces.
STEP 7: Attach legs to the bench.
STEP 8: Wipe entire project with Minwax finishing wax (2 coats).
