My mother needs extra assistance & my daughter has chronic epilepsy. Some extra safety precautions. I 'm renting a 4 bedroom, 2 bath. Thank you

The landlord may not approve installed grab bars. Wherever possible, place your furniture at angles, with the sturdy backs away from the wall so they provide handy places for unsteady hands. The accommodations for a walker vs a wheelchair are opposites, so a good bit of thought must go into furniture placement. Of course, you will need to forget the aesthetics and focus on the practicality.

I agree. Thank you. We just ceased using her walker to using her wheel chair. Our furniture has nice wide arms so that works wonderfully. Typically there are safety bars in the tub and shower so that's a plus. Thank you Donna. 😊👍

I saw some safety rails that work by suction in a catalog recently. I believe the name was First Street. They sell lots of items for those of us who need a bit of help.

Now that is really awesome. I was thinking about adding heavy duty extra strength command strips. Thank you Kathy.

  • Go to the ADA.gov site, and give your local chapter a call. You may be entitled to benefits you are not aware of. Generally that covers public places an employment, but there is information concerning housing as well. Worth a phone call.
