Grain Sack Striped Stools

These beautiful stools were transformed by Sandra from Charmed Crown Blog with Midnight Sky, Vanilla Frosting, and Tough Coat!
I was excited to have found these stools when I did and of course for a steal on Craigslist.
Although we don’t have a bar counter or any type of counter high enough to use these as seating, I sought them mostly for their multi-use function.
We don’t have a lot of room in our home for bulky couches or large seating therefore these are useful for when guests are over and extra seating is needed. I’ve also noticed that a lot of times these are useful as side tables too. All in all I think they were a great investment of ten dollars for both and will look nice and pretty anywhere in the house. The person I bought them from mentioned they had only been used for home staging therefore they were only slightly scuffed and truthfully didn’t matter because I knew I was painting them anyway.
Here’s how they started out and the after of how they turned out after I used some of Country Chic Paint’s Vanilla frosting All-in-One Decor paint.
I failed to get a well lit photo of them outdoors like I normally like to do but you get the gist of how they looked prior. Your basic light wood colored bar stool.
As always when working with chalk paint, no need to sand the furniture piece down. Just a good cleaning and dry everything well and you’re basically ready to start.
Country Chic Paint is by far one of my favorite chalk-style paints. I’ve worked with plenty and although I like a couple of them more than others, this one is definitely one of my top choices.
It was a little hard to decide on white colors I wanted to use, but I’ve been on a neutral kick as of lately and I love the clean crisp look it gives our home. Vanilla Frosting has actually become one of my favorite colors from Country Chic Paint and you’ll see why.
This color is a slight creamier color than the normal white or in country chic colors, slightly less white than their Simplicity color. Which makes for a perfect look if you don’t want that bright white and a more country chic look. No pun intended *wink *wink!
Gave the stools two coats of the Vanilla Frosting.
They turned out exactly how I envisioned them. I thought it would be fun to add a grain sack type of stripe to them for some added country chic character. I thought of numbering them too because I’ve been on a number kick as of lately, but this was my favorite look after going back and forth for a while.
I used Midnight Sky by Country Chic as well for the stripes and after only one coat of that, let it dry for a couple of hours before distressing the stripes a little for a worn look.
After letting my chalk paint cure for twenty-four hours I applied and sealed both bar stools with Country Chic Paint’s Tough Coat its the perfect sealer for furniture that gets a lot of use. On top of that it supposed to be scratch resistant, it is also water based therefore very low in odor and will not discolor your paint. My first time using their tough coat, so I’ll let you know in the near future how well it works, but I trust that it will be true to its description. You want to make sure you use a foam brush to apply the tough coat rather then a regular paint brush for a smooth look and I applied two coats of the Tough Coat.
