Can I use these old broken boots for any cool diy projects?

I wore these until the soles lliterally broke off! Decided instead of fixing them, it's finally time for a new pair. Anything else I can do with them instead? Thanks!

I've seen old boots used as flower planters. A variety of flowers can be used in this way to brighten up the backyard or along a gate or pathway to the home.

Yes! As Brenda said, PLANTERS! You can also plant herbs in them, put them just outside the door and then you'll have a "mini-herb garden" all summer long, just steps away from the kitchen!

I like the flower pot idea. Go one step further and tuck them in a corner in your yard... making them look as if they were forgotten and the flowers or herbs took over.

When my kids were small we had a shoe garden. Discarded boots, high heels etc put them right on the ground and filled with hens and chickens.

kids love to show it off & lasted for years!

I save a pair of shoes from each of my children and planted chicks and hens in them. Now I doing the same for my grandchildren. I've tucked them in nooks around my gardens for years! Everyone that sees them thinks the idea is sweet.

Decoupage them with fabric, add a vintage handkerchief or doily and some jewelry and maybe some dried flowers or a candle stick.

Would check shoe repair first, but this is happening to several good brands of shoes, where rubber breaks down. But a fairy garden, miniatures would look cute,or suculents

When her husband died over 30 years ago, she left his old boots by the door........as a sign............................that a big man lived there..................size 13.

I have a pair of heels that my mom wore when she worked for the F.B.I. ( head of the finger-print division) during WW2....I hate to put them outside....(felt-like)...any suggestions?? I would so appreciate anything!!

    • Kcama Kcama on Apr 09, 2017

Put them in a shadow box along with a pic of your mom, maybe a favorite scarf ....piece of jewelry....magnifying glass...repro WWII VE day newspaper? A little script note of why they're special.

Yes you can, though firstly stick parts back together with a decent glue... Using a green shoe polish, polish in as much as possible doing swirling patterns... let dry then spray with a clear enamal spray//perhaps twice.. After properly drying use scrunched up green cellophane, then find some interesting sticks & paint them green... Now if one happens to be a cigar smoker, tie nylon clear thread around the tops/heads of the cigars & hang on branches..or one can tie lollie pops & do the same: basically have it as some unusual looking growing object & place offerings on it for visitors;depending on who they are one can think of many ideas for simple gift offerings.. plastic wrapped biscuits anyone?.... You will definately have a talking piece,& as brown & greens work together, this really can complement any colour decor.

    Happy Crafting!🙃

You can use the boots as inside planters too. Put in heavy plastic to the top. Put rocks inside, to keep from tipping and to suspend your plastic pot of plants. Use a plant that doesn't need lots of water or just tip the boot to drain a few minutes after watering. The other boot could be leaning against it with a vacation souvenir mounted on it . Vacation mementos always seem to end up in a box somewhere.

I saw some shoes that had been used for mixed media, they were lovely. Maybe you could try that.

You can make of each of them a funky base for an old lamp. You can pour the cement mix in a bag of plastic bag fitted inside them and fit the lamb stand in the middle if you want to make a tall stand lamb or a short one for the desk or you can fix one of the shoes on a piece of old wood before adding the cement mix if you want to fix the light to the wall. After finishing, cut away any remaining plastic coming out of the shoe, if you wish you can splash some colour drops on the shoe to match the soft furniture you have, to complete the interior design. Use some old material to look like a sock around the inside of the shoe to give a beautiful real look. Keep the laces on or replace them with neon coloured ones.

Add some heavy stuff inside and use for bookends or door stop.

Mount them to a tree as a birdhouse with the foot hole out. Spray completely with a sealant.

Hi Leah, yes you can. My hubby lost a shoe. Well, the dog ate one of them and I turned it into a leprechaun shoe planter - https://acraftymix.com/blog/lucky-leprechaun-shoe-planter/
