How to Build Black Bypass Barndoors for Under $100

I wanted cute farmhouse sliding barndoors and I wasn't willing to pay $1600 to fit my large opening. I also didn't have much space to work with. So here's what we came up with ...

... bypass barndoors painted in gorgeous black!

I had to have some privacy because I work from home, my friends. But with a large farmhouse sliding barndoor, you gotta have enough room for the door to slide to the other side of the room when open. I didn’t want to box in our open staircase. But I did need to block out my children when working!!!

We started with six 1 x 6 x 8 pieces of whitewood from our local hardware store. It’s light and cheap -- only $4 each. Awesome!

We invested in a Kreg Jig for the project in order to anchor each board to each other without seeing nail holes, etc. We added a header, a footer and a diagonal piece thru the middle. These were all 1 x 8 x 8 boards and both for support and for looks! We used a nail gun to hold it together.

We had two in no time! We painted the doors my FAVORITE BLACK - which is also on my dining room ceiling and all my interior doors.  Read my full blog post to get the color and some painting tips. Plus I have a link there were you can download my list of my top 50 Favorite Fall Colors!

We installed a header (just a 1 x 8 x 10)  to attach the hardware system to because we wanted to make sure the doors were stable and secure. We also painted a matching wall color so it would disappear into the wall.

The hardware system we bought is genius! We installed it right into the header. Learn where to purchase it on my blog post and get a coupon!

So here is how the doors look all the way opened and stacked on top of one another. When rolled to the other side of the room, the barndoors block off the opening to the entry. So no more legs running down the steps in the background when I'm on a business call or filming a consulting video. No more noise when recording my podcast. I now have a barrier!!!!

I'm curious how noisy they are when sliding. I would love these in my bedroom over the bathroom doorway.

where is the slide for the bottom of the door to keep them from moving forward and backward while sliding the doors?

Sorry but not seeing how you made these for under $100 because i checked out the hardware site and there's no way plus the lumber prices? Tractor Supply Company is way cheaper with the hardware
