Think up! Up-space is often ignored . Possible rods, suspended baskets, hammocks, all kinds of ways to put things overhead, yet available.

I have a large stash as well and store it in an armoire that has 3 deep pull out drawers behind doors and another drawer at the bottom. It is in my family room which also functions as my sewing area, it goes well with the other furniture and nobody would guess it's stuffed with fabric. It's nice that it's all in one place and all I have to do is open the doors and pull out the drawers to get to it. If one is not enough you can always get another, check out thrift stores and flea markets.

Some of the Ladies Guilds would love to have your fabrics. They make all sorts of blankets, quilts, aprons..all kinds of stuff. The local prisons also might take them, as ours does. It's a real creative time for the inmates. At Christmas time they sell what they have made and get to keep the money. Some are gorgeous. They get real excited when someone buys their craft. The senior center would love the fabric. Churchs also might have a guild that makes clothes for other countries. Donate these pieces and it is a tax deduction too. Very worth while thing to dao.

I have lots of fabric, and was never using any of it until I came up with this solution. I purchased some wire shelving, and the plastic drawer units that have 2 or 3 clear drawers. Note, clear is important. I stacked the clear drawer units on shelving. Next was the big task - I sorted all my material by color on a large table (which for me was the dining room table.) Now, each drawer has a separate color fabric. I also keep specialty fabrics, ie upholstry scraps, or for use on special projects like baby material, in separate clear drawers. Since I can now see what I have (clear drawers), I find that I am actually sewing from my stash. Before that I had a stack of Rubbermaid tubs, but I never wanted to root though all of it.

I have one small room dedicated to sewing. I put up several shelving units, sorted fabrics by type (cotton, flannel, fleece, knit, etc) and also put them in clear tubs. Along with craft supplies, kid crafts, yarns and such. It's my little haven! I got a label maker for Christmas as a joke, but I used it to label EVERYTHING including the drawers with smaller supplies, bias tapes, zippers, elastic, buttons, tools and misc. Got to admit I had so much fun sorting and setting it all up, kibd of like taking inventory! Plus, now I can find most anything and not make a trip to the fabric store for something that I know I have stashed somewhere!

I have seen somewhere on Pinterest fabric storage that involved using a filing cabinet.....each piece was folded and hung within it.....Also, consider church groups for fabrics you don't want....many churches have groups which make clothes/quilts/toys for those in need and would greatly appreciate the donation of anything you don't want to keep!

In house no 2. My fabric was hung on pants hangers. Most of it still is...
