This old dresser was totally ready for the trash pile! I grabbed it up first though! The finish was failing badly and mostly worn away. But, I could see it had a new life to live!
Solid Wood... just needed a special touch
First thing is taking everything apart and even removing the mirror from the frame and placing it in a safe place! Then I went to my Pure and Original colors to figure out the direction I wanted to take,...
I decided I really wanted to just use the dresser as a canvas,.. taking some bold blue hues and playing with them in an artful way... So I cleaned everything thoroughly and then sprayed shellac over the entire thing-3 coats. This ensures the oils from the solid wood dresser would not bleed into the painted finish.
It was storming so badly! I painted much of the night just adding and taking away paint and shading ,.. the next morning I awoke to this.. Im so impressed with how easy the paint is to use every time I pick it up,..It makes the artful process so therapeutic...
And this is where I landed! I could see this being such a neat piece for an entry way,.. the glove boxes useful for keys and such, mail laid across the top of it and all sorts of necessities in the drawers,.. I love the warbled antique mirror... Be sure to go check out the full story on the blog :-) This was truly a special piece for me... {Full Story}
