Hello there...I am sooo happy to share our master bedroom makeover with you. It took some time and determination to keep the cost down. I never really believed the space would open up like it did.

The project was divided into mini-projects. Usually I try and overhaul a space in one weekend. This one took over a year--from designing, to settling on the most affordable product, to deciding the order of the mini-projects, to finishing them. Sigh...it was really worth taking the time.

I've posted the after photos with a brief description. Over at olympicnest.com you can see the before and after photos and a more lengthy description of the process we went through to complete each mini-project.

These two yard sale finds were treated, cleaned and painted with DIY chalk paint. Rather than buy new hardware, I just spray painted them canyon black with a satin finish. The walls were painted with Behr's Ocean Mist which I love how it makes the room feel...like I'm at the beach. Finally we replaced the door trim with 3" wide trim.

We used underlayment plywood to create this planked wall. Home Depot ripped them into 8" wide boards. I used the same paint from the dressers. It didn't just open up the bedroom but it also acts as a buffer to our living room TV which is just on the other side of the wall. Happy dance.

With leftover underlayment boards, I created this faux barn closet door look. Before they were your typical, ugly white bypass doors. Now look at them! Using the same pure white paint, I used a white wash technique then added the hardware which I found on Amazon.

It's pretty amazing what new window treatment does to a room. Two years ago I found these drapes at a Goodwill store. They are heavy and so they sat in a drawer because the curtain rod was pretty flimsy (you know... the white standard rod they put in manufactured homes). I found this new one at Ross' and voila--curtains give life to bedroom.

Another thing I discovered was the window now acts as the wall art. Before I had some needlepoint work and a big ole' gun cabinet. Now the window is the statement.

The last thing we did was added a pendant light which replaced the standard boob light. I love the geometric shape. My husband didn't at first.

And there you have it. A small master bedroom opened up with cool colored paint, dark accents, and some country charm. You can see the full before and after posts over at olympicnest.com.

Cheers!
