What can I do with a numerous amount of empty crochet thread spools?

Being a fan of the steampunk and Victorian era ornaments, I'd find some metal (mason jar?) lids that you could attach to the top and bottom that are slightly larger than the spool. If you don't have any, cut some rounds from cardboard for the top and finish the edges with ribbon or lace. Poke a hole in the center of each lid and run a cord through it with decorative jewels. This will give you a nice hanger on top and a way to attach ornate adornments or tassels to the bottom. Cover the spools in fabric, maps, old music or news material or paper you like and add adornments. Hot glue would work for attaching the top and bottom.

Those tubes look like they're itching to be dressed up! I'd make them look like gears out of a drive shaft and add them to a hydraulic arm lift for a shield, but I'm a bit goofy that way ;)

I like Kym's ideas, quite clever! I am more boring as I see napkin rings or wreaths.

It's early for me, my brain hasn't registered yet.........I'll be thinkin' of something to be helpful, maybe.

I would turn them sideways and make a christmas tree. spray paint whatever color you like and add beads, bows, etc.

cover them in cute contact paper or patterned duct tape and use them to bind all the cords for all your small appliances, cel phones, curling irons, blow dryers, etc

Stack them on their sides like a Christmas tree and cover the openings in wrapping paper for a clever Advent calendar.

Take yarn and pull them together to make a hot pad or put a top on it afterwards to make a coaster. If they are big enough wrap them and use for drink holders.

You could use them to germinate seedlings. Flatten them out to form a square shape and make slits in the folds in the bottom. Then fold the bottom flaps like a packing box. I use toilet paper and paper towel rolls for the same purpose.

If you decorated the outside and inside of them. You could turn them on their sides and hang them on the wall as storage. Bathroom towels, or soaps.

If you still have some, donate to an elementary or Jr. High school, especially one is a less advantaged area. They would be super for kids to try to build 3D tower type sculptures for science or art. More often than a person would think, schools just do not have any budget for these kinds of materials.
