My new wreath project uses scrap fabric, ribbon, and other textural elements to create a unique home decoration that reflects the changing seasons. I hope to display this festive wreath in my home throughout the year and with a lot of different seasonal and holiday decor.
This wreath project starts with some basic supplies: a wreath form (I used a foam wreath, but you could probably use any form), hot glue gun, scissors and a measuring tape.

The materials for decorating your wreath can be (and should be) many and varied. Some ideas include:
  • Scrap fabric, ribbon, and other trimmings
  • Yarn or twine
  • Beads or beaded garland
  • Upholstery nail heads or other decorative tacks
  • Buttons, sequins, or bits of broken jewelry
  • Glass pebbles or marbles, as you might put in a vase
  • Artificial flowers or leaves
  • Crosscut pieces of small branches
  • Acorn tops or seed pods
  • Feathers or seashells
The first step in making this wreath is to lay out your materials to see how they look together. Although I designed my wreath to depict the different seasons, this is not essential. You could also borrow the idea and textural elements of the wreath project, but use any color combination you choose to match your decor or represent a specific holiday.
Once you decide on an arrangement of materials, start adding and attaching them to your wreath. Some thought should go into the order that you put these materials on your form. In some cases, you will want one item to overlap another to cover any edges or seams.

I have full directions, along with more photos,   on my blog.
I think that the fun textural and unexpected items give this wreath some unique personality.
I like how the wooden beads on this wreath are balanced with the metal nail heads across the way. And how my artificial flower is placed across from a little feather. I hope you like it too!

I love this idea! When you used your hot glue gun, did you find that it melted the wreath form at all? My glue gun seems to be so hot it melts almost everything!
