Transforming An Old China Cabinet

4 Materials
I do not own a set of China. I do however collect just about anything you can set a table with! I had been on the lookout for a storage piece that I could display my collection in when I ran across this at my local Goodwill.
The style was pretty classic and the price was right at $60, so this mid sized vintage cabinet came home with me!
the easiest thing to do was work on each piece seperate the two sections. I painted each section in a creamy off white to keep a neutral backdrop for my collection of Transfer Ware. For the top of the china cabinet I removed the glass doors and chose to do something a bit more interesting and textural.
I purchased 1 1/2 yards of a neutral damask fabric from Hobby Lobby with a coupon and hotglued it to the back of the cabinet and I love the result!!! It has made a great backdrop for all of the thing I have collected for many years.
i also changed out the drawer pull for some that I actually found on Etsy for $12!

What kind of paint did you use ?

did you sand the wood first ?

Why hot glue and not spray adhesive? 🤔 It’s much easier to use with fabric, and it takes out all the wrinkles, allows for minor repositioning if necessary... which hot glue doesn’t.

Also, as much as I adore Etsy, if you have a Habit for Humanity ReStore near you, they have an AMAZING selection of drawer pulls and knobs for next to nothing, and there’s no wait time for them to be shipped to you. Just a thought for your next project... and you might check out the other goodies they have as well! 😊

Great Job! I have a similar cabinet, minus the drawers, that I got off Craigslist a few years back and now I want to paint it. I am also planning to paint it white to lighten it up. I thought about putting a piece of wallpaper in the back for a "pop" of color. Did you have to remove the back panel to add the fabric?
