Anyone know what this white stuff is? And how I can get rid of it?

q anyone know what this white stuff is and how i can get rid of it
Does anyone know what this is? I found it in my garden as I was pulling up the weed cover cloth. This is what it looks like when it's dry.

This is what it looks like when it's fresh in the ground. I had this before in the "shady" area of my garden, but someone told me that the weed cover would get rid of it. Not true, if anything, it's flourished.

Any idea what it is and how to get rid of it? The shady part of the garden is shaded by a large magnolia tree, if that makes a difference. A magnolia tree and an oak tree.

Looks like a fungus or lichen from what I can see. The area is probably too damp. You might aerating the soil, or work in some coarse compost to lighten up the soil. I would put a bit in a plastic bag, and take to my nursery. Maybe apply some fungicide.

You may want to think about taking some of this "stuff" to your local gardening shop and let them look at it.

looks like mold or fungus. in which case, spray with vinegar and let it dry...
take as much out of the garden as you can. repeat vin treatment.
mix with good soil after it has dried out and either don't put plastic sheeting down or water a lot less or even drainage might be a problem for this area.

It's a fungus. Fungus only grows in shady moist areas. Try spraying bleach.

It looks like dead dried out moss. I have a tree withe something similar to this on many of the branches. Are you sure it didn't fall from the tree? It could be blowing off your roof too.
