How to convert a garage into an exercise room...

by Kay
My husband is a disabled Veteran and does not get enough exercise and therapy because of our location. I have considered converting our 2 car garage into a home gym. Our budget is limited but this would be so helpful for him that I want to stretch dollars as far as I can. Any ideas?

I found this to be a really helpful guide, the best thing you can do is DIY as much of it as you can to help stick with your budget. You got this!!! I'm sure he's going to really gain from it- best of luck!

Thank you Hillela! You are such a positive person and I appreciate your suggestion! Getting to a gym is a challenge so doing this at home would make such a difference! Have a Blessed day!!!

I too am disabled with multiple orthopedic issues. The best exercise equipment my doctor has recommended for me is swimming, I also invested in a "Total Gym" no impact very easy on my joints, I love it!

I am sorry to hear that Rita! I agree that swimming would be best...I would consider the Endless pool but they are cost prohibitive. I will look into the Total Gym as an option. Thank you for sharing and best wishes!!!

You can buy an area rug that will cover most of the garage floor - that will help soften the look of the concrete.

A total gym is a good option - you can do alot of exercises with this one piece of equipment. Check Craigslist in your area and local buy/sell sites on FB for used equipment. So many times people buy these things with good intentions and barely use them so they sell them cheaply just to get rid of them quick.

I'd purchase a couple of fans to keep it cool, add a small refrigerator for water, and hang a cabinet for other things - towels, etc. The finishing touch???? Hang a TV on the wall!
