Master Bedroom Reveal!

It is finally time for our Master Bedroom Reveal! This room has been by far the most challenging room to date. We had numerous setbacks and there were times I wanted to pull my hair out but it all came together in the end.
If you have been following our journey you know that we purchased dark furniture when we moved into our home, only to regret it a short time later. We did not take the time and actually think about what we wanted from the space or how we wanted our home to feel. Needless to say, we are now having to go room by room redoing everything!
Before we dive into all of the updated goodness you have to see the before to fully appreciate it for what it has become! This is what it looked like before we bought the house.
Here is what it looked like before we painted and updated everything. It wasn’t bad just wasn’t us.
This space started as all of our makeovers do, with a mood board! You need a plan to prevent unnecessary purchases and it helps if you can actually see what things will look like together. You see those roman shades? Well, I worked on them for a week and a half, sewing by hand mind you, and when I went to hang them they weren’t functional at all! We tried all kinds of things to get them to work to no avail. Finally, I decided to move forward without them and revisit that at a later date. Talk about frustrating. For the most part, everything ended up just like we planned though.
When we moved into our house two of the guest rooms and the office were painted pretty wild colors. So those were at the top of the list to be painted and our Master was set to the side for a while. The colors were definitely not colors we would choose for our home but to each their own.  The Master Bedroom was tan with a lighter tan sponge painted over the top. You heard me sponge painted! We knew we wanted the room to be painted light gray and since we had recently painted our office in Sherwin Williams Repose Gray,  we decided that we would use it as the main color throughout our home. So we spent one weekend painting the entire space and the difference was amazing!

We sold our dark wood bed to my mother in law which made things easy since we didn’t have to wait for someone to purchase it. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the piece it just didn’t fit what we wanted for our home. We wanted light and bright with a few pops of color and no matter what we did it just didn’t work with the dark wood.
So the search for a perfect bed that met all of our requirements began. After several mishaps and three solid weeks of searching online along with every furniture store in the metro area only to find absolutely nothing, I started looking out-of-state. To my surprise, I found the perfect bed at Nebraska Furniture Mart and it came in several hundred dollars cheaper than the competition. Honestly, I was really nervous until we had it set up and then I couldn’t have been any more in love! It is amazing you guys and I would buy it again and again. The fabric is thick, color is perfect, it covers the box spring completely and the height makes it look so luxurious.

Since we had spent so much money on furniture and decor when we moved into our house. We wanted to keep things as easy on the wallet as possible. That meant we would keep our lamps, nightstands, dresser, and rug. We knew if we lightened the walls, curtains, and bed that we could make it work without changing every single thing. We were lucky because sometimes it’s just not possible to make things work together as easily as we did so don’t get discouraged if your old stuff doesn’t work. Just try to think of ways you may be able to change it to fit or possibly even sell it to buy what you want.
This entire room was inspired by these Schumacher pillows. I have loved them since the moment I saw them so when we decided on redoing our master I knew that would be the perfect place for them. You have probably seen them featured on one of my Friday Favorites. To top things off my absolute favorite company for purchasing pillows carries them in several colors and they also carry this gorgeous leopard lumbar pillow which is an all time favorite. Double score!
Now I have to brag on  Pillow Time Girls  for a moment. This company is hands down the best company I have ever worked with or purchased from. They go so far out of their way to make sure everything is perfect and you have exactly what you need when you need it. The quality of their work surpasses any I have seen thus far and the price points are amazing! Linda is the most kind, generous person and honestly cares if her customers are happy, which is rare these days. So if you are planning a pillow purchase these girls should definitely be at the top of the list!

This was my third time using them and each time has been just as good as the last. No matter if it’s a $40.00 purchase or a $200.00 purchase they have treated me like I was their most important customer each time and that means something to me. Each pillow cover comes with an invisible zipper enclosure which is my favorite type.  Aren’t those pillows stunning?
The greek key bedding is something I have had on my list of wants for a long time! When I initially spotted the set we had just purchased one so I knew there was no way the hubs would go for that.
As soon as the hubs gave the go ahead I went straight to it hoping it was still in stock and thank goodness it was! I absolutely love the way it looks with the pillows! It is 100% cotton so it was a bit wrinkled out of the dryer but I washed/dried and took it to the cleaners for a press. Viola wrinkle free!
The framed agate art was a total must have! I originally wanted to purchase the framed agate trio I posted about a few weeks ago but the frame was not the right color and I was scared to paint it since they cost so much, what if I messed them up? Then I found these at target and the price was so great I knew I could chance spray painting them and not panic if I ended up hating it. I used my favorite  Rustoleum  Metallics in Gold.
The Ram was also a target find, he absolutely had to come home with me. icon  isn’t he darling! He looks like he belongs there guarding the bathroom door.
This fiddle leaf fig is around two years old, these are known for being hard to take care of and I may have nearly murdered one but this one has done extremely well. Last spring we had a huge amount of growth and that was only one season! I am kind of scared to see how much it grows this season. We may have to move out and give him the house. icon
These linen curtains were a gamble because I wasn’t sure how good the quality would be but I was pleasantly surprised. They have a nice weight and block just enough of the sunlight. Plus I love the light and airy feel they give the room.

That fan… Listen, everything inside me would love nothing more than to have a beautiful shiny chandelier hanging above our bed but let’s be real!! We live in Oklahoma where the summers are brutally hot and a ceiling fan is a complete necessity. So as much as I would love to yank it down it has to stay. Maybe someday we could update it with a more modern piece but for now, it works.
The Navy pillows are from a company that I hadn’t used before but I was happy with the service and the pillows are great. Typically I won’t purchase envelope closures just because I love having a zipper and I like the front and back being the same but these work since they are up against the bed.
We mounted our TV onto the wall with a wall mount and hid the wires with a kit Wayne found. It requires cutting part of the drywall out so if you not comfortable doing that then you could see how it looked with a cord cover but this way worked best for us. I hate seeing cords hanging all over the place and love how clean it looks now.
Do you see the bust planter I mentioned a few Friday’s ago? She still has no plant! I looked everywhere for something that would work well but couldn’t settle on anything so there she sits.
Several people have asked about the watercolor prints above and believe it or not they are from a store on Etsy. LilaXLola sells printable art and they have tons of options. Once you complete your purchase you can download the art and have it printed to any size you like at your local photo shop or printing store. I used Walgreens and had them printed 11×14 and put them in these brass 16×20 matted frames. These were perfect because they blend so well with the navy in both pillows. I mixed in some black with the book and horse head to go with the bedding and leopard pillow.

The lamps and shades were purchased separately and they are actually no longer carried in this color but I found a similar option that I will link to at to in the original post.

Love this reno and the whole process. Do you mind if I try to redesign this space in 3d? Also, what would you call this interior style?
