  • How about a trim mouling and bead board or shiplap installed below? Or a chair rail type moulding and a semi gloss paint below?

Wainscoting with a chair rail looks nice.

Unless you love the wallpaper, I would remove it. Start fresh. I have a wall that has been wallpapered 3 times, what a mess. I like the chair rail idea, but don't paint over wallpaper, take it out and paint or install wainscoting.

The wallpapers need to be taken off if you want to do quality work especially if you paint it.

You can also paint but I don't think you'd be happy with the look after its finished.

Taking down the wallpaper, spackling any holes, priming and then painting you could do yourself and you could probably do the wainscoting yourself also it's just a little more involved IMO.

I washed my wallpaper, let it dry over-night, put a white primer paint down & painted it. It's held up for over a decade!
