Tomato plants need six to eight hours of full sun.

Minimum of six, and even moisture...not soggy, but dry/wet cycles invite blossom end rot

  • It depends. Full sun in my neck of the woods will produce nothing but sunburned fruit. Yes, they need sun, but if it is blazing hot and over 100 every day during the summer, I would give them landscape shade or possibly a different location. With early morning and late afternoon sun. If you have the space, I would buy several plants and place in several locations and see what they like best.

Actually tomatoes get ripe in the dark. They do like son in the day but they will ripen at night.

Light Requirements for Tomatoes to Grow. The simple answer to questions on light requirements for tomatoes is that you need a minimum of six hours to produce fruit, but eight or more hours of sun will produce the best results in terms of how many tomatoes you get.
