You lay a rope like jute, around the foundation of your home and snakes will think it's another snake and they won't cross it.

Get rid of their source of food and shelter. Black snakes are a predator for Copperheads, so please do not kill them...most snakes are good...not poisonous.... And feed on mice, frogs, small birds, and don't eat every day! Keep wood piles well off the ground, make sure the foundation of your home is enclosed, keep grass cut, etc.

Snakes only come around if there is food (mice, voles, moles) for them to eat.
Get rid of the food and they will leave.
