Not sure what the "traditional" methods are but I knew someone who used to just pack dirt around the middle of an attached branch and wrap it with plastic wrap. It worked for him. I don't know how long he left it on....and he has since passed so I can't ask. Just a suggestion.
What Kathy describes is Layering, I have done this. But in the ground, not wrappin. The area covered with soil will put out roots, but leave for months and do not disturb. Before the sap begins to rise in the Spring- cut the vine that comes from the adult plant, then cut the other side off, leave until you see buds forming on the new piece- then replant, digging carefully and deeply so as to not damage the roots. You now have a new Grape vine. Good luck š
