Go garage sailing and to the local Goodwill . Scoop up the largest picture frames you can find . Remove glass and replace with foam board from Walmart that you have painted with chalkboard paint or covered felt (also purchased at Walmart or Hobby Lobby. Depending on the age of the child , and the weight of the frame , I might not even hang them. Lean against the wall or they can lay them on the floor and save your walls the trauma .

Like Cherie's ideas, But depending on how many kids and age range yo could do a few things On a table Child size you could cover with felt and then make felt shapes look up youtube making a felt board and there are tons of ideas. MY Dollar store sells foam core for $2.00 instead of $6.00 t$8.00from the larger store. Also I would get light piece of wood and paint it with chalkboard paint. Again look up you tube to make these the correct way. Hope this helps good luck.

sorry if this isn't a possibility in US but here in UK if you wanted a fair expanse of felt then snooker clubs or snooker table service companies may be a good port of call - the tables are recovered fairly regularly and the old felt baize is a waste product. I got one free of charge and got lots of projects out of it :)

I would just use chalk paint for that part and use felt in the widest you could get. You could use liquid starch to hang the felt. It can always be peeled off and the wall washed of the starch residue. You might also want to do a wall in magnetic paint.
