Easy peasy. Just take the old material off. Make sure you have a large enough piece of new fabric and a good staple gun. Then just center it and pull it evenly all the way around. You ha d to make sure you keep the same amount of pressure as you pull and staple. I start at the ends and do those first. Then the other two sides. The corners are sort of a gather and staple. You may have to clip the extra material as it will get thicker there when you overlap. You can do this!! It will look awesome when you're done!

I just recovered my kitchen chairs and I went right over the old fabric. But I took the seats off. So I would take the legs off.

I agree with Kristi, lay it over the old- the old giving it the same shape platform that you loved when you bought it. The only piece I'd remove would be the bottom- to allow you to gather and staple underneath and out of view, then replace the bottom shroud with a new piece to cover the stapled new gathered material and give a clean finished look.

no need to take those legs off just gather around them a staple and do trim the excess off before you staple good luck

I agree I would just cover the existing material and go around the legs; I would also try to find a fabric that has some texture that accents your rug and add some cushioning as well.
