Unfortunately you have to pull it out. Been there and done that.

If you are willing to wait a full season before replanting, I would douse the area in vinegar. When completely dead, remove, till the soil and wait. Then add in good amendment and replant as desired.

Try spraying it with a combination of baking soda, Dawn, and vinegar

Those things are hard to get rid of. Even pulling leaves behind roots that then take off again. I'd say try the vinegar solution or maybe like Naomi said, just get rid of all of it and start over.
