I am 64 and need something easy to care for. Patio has 3 ft block wall and then the hill up to neighbors yard. Thanks

You don't say where you live, but perhaps you can use something like Mountain Pinks, Creeping Phlox or Creeping Thyme. Maybe plant few here and there on the hill and let them go on their own.

any kind of ground cover but English ivy. it is to invasive and will take over everything.

You will have to smother the weeds out first.What is your location and lighting?
