A Different Rug Adds a Pop of Color to a Small Space

The 2 Seasons
by The 2 Seasons
The foyer in our house is teeny-tiny, and we use it a lot. It was very humdrum looking and needed a pop of color. We purchased a Turkish antique rug and finally got the look we were after. To read more about it, go here: http://the2seasons.com/2014/01/07/the-foyer-look-i-love-finally/
When I saw this rug in the shop, I knew it would be perfect. The red, green, navy, and gold were the colors I wanted. Plus, the rug was 80 years old. This is a high traffic area, and I wouldn't have to worry about distressing it.
I wanted to emphasize the navy color, and so I made some navy and cream pillows and added a kilim pillow to the bench.
To get more blue in the space, I hung old plates beside the mirror.
Other than the rug, my other favorite change to the foyer was painting the door Naval by Sherwin Williams. It's the best shade of navy on the market, I think.
When I went to the rug shop, I had the measurements for the space. The rug was too big, but they were able to size it down in just 20 minutes.
It is just the right size, and we are crazy about the new look.
The blues in my favorite oil painting that hangs on the wall really stand out now that the door is navy.
This is the space as we see it when we go down the stairs.
This is a close-up of the kilim pillow. Kilim pillows are made from the good remaining remnants of worn out rugs.

These pillows really complement one another.
I took this photo by looking in the mirror that hangs over the bench. You can see the navy door, the navy plates, and the oil painting.
