Do I have to use special soil when planting succulents?

    Not really, they can grow in any soil but if your dirt is rock hard or very sandy I would add some purchased garden soil to mix in.

    I've grown succulents in clay type soil and also sandy type and they did fine in both conditions. If you have clay-type soil, however, I would suggest adding some fine sand as that's the kind of soil they prefer. Their thick fleshy leaves hold a lot of moisture so they don't like wet, boggy, clay conditions. They are very easy to grow and propogate.

    For potted plants I'd rather use Succulent/Cactus mix, especially for those small containers....

    just as long as it drains well. And dont over water..
