Can I paint varnished crown molding without stripping it first?

I have varnished, natural oak crown moulding on my kitchen cabinets. Do I need to sand or strip the moulding before I paint it?

Nope just lightly sand, prime and paint. Many old homes with beautiful trim was painted over for years. If you want to go back to stained then you would have to strip it. No Fun.

if you don't want to sand use a deglosser. Wipe on , then prime and paint.

I agree! Just lightly sand to roughen the surface for primer and paint.

I always start with a good cleaning/degreasing......then a light sand, prime with stain blocker and paint. Can't wait to see the result!!! Good luck!!!
