Our 2007 Subaru Outback is being recalled to replace a defective passenger side inflator on 2007 Subaru Outback. About how long should the repair take?

    Call the service manager.
  • The dealer should be able to give you an accurate estimate. They do it all the time, but I would make an appointment and not just "drop in" as they have to do the scheduled cars first.

As a part of his job as a master mechanic in a collision repair shop, my son installs airbags on a near daily basis. Call your dealership and ask what their protocol is. First, if they haven't already, they should immediately disable the airbag, and no one should be sitting in the front seat, now, after it's disabled and until it's been replaced. Next, they'll need to order the specific part for your car if it's not in stock, which is likely. When the part comes in they'll schedule your car. If this is your daily driver, and you have small children, stress this to the tech and ask for an expedited appointment. If they stick to the job once your car is in the bay, it shouldn't take longer than a few hours.
