For some, this might be barbaric so don't read... Take a 5 gallon bucket, fill 1/2 way with water, pour enough black sun flower seeds in to cover the top of the water. I put a 3 ft board from the ground to the lip of the bucket so the fanged tooth beasts can easily get to the seeds. This is the barbaric part...they get in and can't get out (drown). I use my dog pooper scooper to remove them once they are ... dump the bucket and refill with fresh water weekly. Also add new sunflower seeds as needed. I eliminated 19 last year so my landscape and flowers are doing much better.

I have a couple of chipmunks and squirrels in my yard and the chipmunks don't seem to damage anything compared to the squirrels and rabbits. I have a spot by the neighbors air conditioner that I put out treats for them, like stale cookies, stale cereal that nobody ate, etc. and that seems to keep everyone happy. The little pile always gets eaten and it is away from any plantings. It is also not far from my bird feeders and they enjoy the seeds that drop to the ground.

  • Feed the birds. They will vacuum up the mess the birds make and everyone is happy. They will go for the "easy" food and leave your plants alone. Learning to co exist is the key for us. Plus they are so darn cute and entertaining, just watching them play makes my day.

I also had chipmunk problems. I read that they don't like the smell of peppermint so I planted peppermint & so far no chipmunks or mice.
