As long as the flag is used as a whole and not desecrated in any way it might be ok. Depends on the project.
I think that it depends on the project also - if you can manage to use the whole flag and don't cut or make marks, it could work. But to err on the side of caution, I would probably avoid it.
As long as the flag is dispkayed in it's normal respective manner. For example exactly out how to hang on a flagpole but Tastefully secure to a wall or under glass. American flag is not supposed to be used for curtains or bedspreads or supposed to be worn on our bodies and it should never touch the ground.
