Are you interested in painting? You can give chalk paint a try, to achieve a lighter, more vintage look. I've seen a couple of projects and they all came out great!
Unicorn Spit, easy and fun.
Canope
I painted my four poster bed in a dark red chalk paint. Love it. It totally changed the looks and style of it.
Hang curtains on the 4 corners of the bed, and create a new canopy. New bedding always makes it fresh. You can add a new finial or ball on top of each post. You could pad and upholster the head and foot board.. You could do some decorative painting on the head and foot boards, and even some tendrils going up the posts.
You could add sheer curtains to the back board and then hand twinkle lights behind it!
