I need to paint a new screen door- what paint and prep is needed?

We have to replace our screen door. The one we purchased was almost exactly like the old on except it has a key lock on it that we need because of large dogs so they can't bump the latch and get out. The door we wanted only came in white, no brown, not even in special order were they brown. What is the best paint to use, and how do I have to prep it so that it doesn't peel off. Thanks!

You got this!! A little painter's tape goes a long way...

Thank you for the info. Will check this paint out. I plan on painting it before we hang it. I can't leave the doors open because of the four dogs, one hybrid cat, and the fact that it is too chilly right now to have it open. We also have two birds that would be susceptible to the paint fumes. One is only ten feet away rom that door, the other is straight down the stairs opposite the door.

I put newspaper on the windows and screens and painters tape all the way around, they are still waiting for the paint. Door is pretty much done. We used Rustoleum. Have had to take breaks because of weather too cool or high humidity slowing drying time. We are getting there. Can't wait for it to finally be done and I will have a window to shut over the screen to keep rain from going through the screen and hitting door.
