Need some innovative ideas to keep the birds from eating my tomatoes!!

I've tried the usual- netting, DVD's, etc. It has become a contest between me and the birds. They have even eaten newly planted seeds. Grrrrr!

Try placing things that "move" around your plants.

    • Whirlygigs, spinners, flags that flap and blow in the breeze, windchimes..
    • there is also a mylar tape (sometimes called "scare tape" that you can hang from tree branches, or shepard hooks, that will move around with the slightest of breeze, and the mylar catches the light and flashes brightly.
    • Birds are resourceful, though.. you may have to try several of these things at the same time, and also.. move them around occasionally.

I know this is going to sound silly but my daughter went to the dollar tree and got rubber snakes in the toy section. She would move them around every Sunday and she had tomatoes like you wouldn't believe, and cukes so big in order to make them into pickles, she had to slice them!! Now, I don't have photos of the tom's but I swear, she had so many she had to give them way. Here is a photo and a link so you know it's legit. We also have great luck with a solar powered Owl that turns every 5 minutes to keep birds away from our pool.

    Hope this helps!!

that's what a scarecrow is all about. They need something that will frighten them off.
