Murphy Oil Soap is basically a cleaner for tough or years of build up dirt and grime. I use it to clean anything wood, then Old English Lemon Oil to polish. Also comes in different shades of wood tones.

Thank you for your reply but I don't plan on using Murphy Soap again. I had tested a small section first and actually applied Old English after but the shine didn't come back.

I agree with the Murphy Oil soap and always test first!!! Then the Old English. I use the Lemon Oil but whatever is available where you live. When using the Murphy are you using a rag? Use a very, very mild scrubbing pad. I use an old used green scrubber. Most of the abrasive is gone. Some also say a very fine steel wool.

Again I cannot stress enough to try it on an inconspicuous area!!

Orange oil works well . I've seen Amish wood milk at the dollar store and Walgreens .
