I have large, ugly tree roots that are coming up into my lawn. Is there a way to get rid of them without removing the large tree?!

I have the same problem with the tree roots. Did you get any answers? I didn't see any.

    Thanks, C. Gray

Unfortunately, probably not. Some trees are very shallow rooted, like silver maple. And if you cover the surface roots with topsoil, they will just grow back up to where they want to be. The only remedy is to take the tree down and dig up the roots. (Personal experience here, with silver maples.)

you may instead want to consider overplanting with some type of ground cover, such as monkey grass. This will at least hide any exposed tree roots as well as minimize lawn maintenance.

if you have silver maples you may as well just sand and varnish your yard as it will be more wood than grass.Love the look of the tree but absolutely HATEthe fight with the roots, because it's a "no win"situation.Even after taking out the tree, there will be years of fighting sprouts from the existing roots.Whoever plants a silver maple intentionally should have to live with it for their lifetime.

Thanks!! I'll have to go to a nursery and find out what kind of a tree it is. It could very well be a silver maple.
