How to build an addition onto a modular home

need to build an addition for a mud room onto my modular home and would like some ideas on the best way to do it ourselves, size needed is 12 by 12 feet for the addition.

  • My first thought was when you mention that you want to do it yourselves: Have you checked with the local authorities about permits and what is required as far as safety, electric, etc.? 12X12 is the size of a bedroom and I think there could be some regulations.

    My concern this involves structural construction that does involve permits and inspections. The other concern is that if you are asking how to do it then you should not attempt it. This project is really not a DIY unless you have some construction experience.

    yes there must be a permit along with plans from an engineer for us to follow.

      We plan on getting plans drawn up by an engineer and have a contractor do the framing and any electrical work, and finish it ourselves.
