Pet & Child Friendly Weed Killers
There are many safe ways to kill weeds which are not only safe for your dog but are also safe for children playing in the garden.
1. Vinegar - You can spray vinegar onto the plants. You may need to do several treatments for stubborn plants. Alternatively, soak a cotton wool ball in vinegar and wipe onto the weeds to ensure only the weeds are treated.
2. Sugar – this will render the soil where you place the sugar temporarily infertile. Mix equal amounts of pepper, chilli or paprika with the sugar to discourage anything which may be attracted to sugar. This treatment is excellent for larger weeds which cannot be easily removed. Place sugar mixture at the base of the weed.
3. Boiling Water – this will cook the roots of the weed. This is better used where you want to eliminate all weeds and plants as the boiling water will cook all roots and plants which are in contact with the water.
4. Salt – This is another great way to eliminate all weeds and plants in an area you do not want any plants, such as an area covered in pavers or bricks.
I also have a dog that loves her salads all the time. She has only chosen grass and has never even tried a weed. With the four extremely mature trees on our lot there are a lot of weeds vs. grass.
