Bake the pine cones in your oven to make sure any insects are dead ( 200 degrees for 30 minutes. Stay close and watch for any tendrils of smoke as the sap can catch on fire. Then give the pine cones a good spray with cinnamon oil or clove oil ( 2cups olive oil + 1/2 cup ground cinnamon. heat oil in saucepan, slowly add cinnamon, stir until dissolved, simmer a couple minutes & strain through a coffee filter) and place the pine cones in a plastic bag for a week or so. Load onto a square of tulle ( mesh fabric) and tie with a ribbon to give as gifts. Use small ones to make Christmas ornaments!
Make firestarters! Melt wax in a double boiler to about 150 degrees. Use crayons to color tint the wax. Wrap a piece of wire around the top of the pinecone, make a good size loop at the top to hold onto - dip the pine cone into the wax, lift and let excess wax drip off. Repeat. Then sprinkle with ordinary table salt .
Break apart pine cones and use the bits for roofing on birdhouses or in fun craft projects. Remember, pine come bits are adorable and can be painted!
Lastly, Pinterest is your friend when you're looking for ideas. Just type in Pine cone crafts into it's search and you'll be in heaven.
Good luck enjoying all those pine cones. You're so lucky to have such an abundance.
I saw a Pinterest craft that used pine cones and made the pine cones look like pineapples by painting them yellow and it appeared that the project used green cardstock for the top of the pineapple. You will have to check Pinterest for the exact instructions.
You can spread peanut butter on them, roll the peanut buttered pinecone in bird seed then hang them outside with string, yarn, wire or ribbon for feeders.
I have also seen them used for holiday place card holders. There is a turkey craft that uses the cones for the body and colored craft foam for feathers...seen jewelry made with them and painting done with pinecones. Obviously, you will want to bake the bugs away if you decide to use the pine cones these ways. Happy crafting!
Dry it properly, add your favorite essential oil on it, place in a cute basket and keep that special area smelling wonderful
A Christmas wreath is beautiful made out of pinecones. I have placed them in a basket or a bowl for a centerpiece for a dinner party as well
Spray pine cones with craft glue then shake silver glitter on them. Hot glue slender green ribbon to base and tie in a loop. They make your Christmas tree look very natural.
Will try this thanks
