What is the best depth of soil for lettuce cultivation?

    As long as it gets regular water, lettuce can thrive in trays as shallow as 4” (10 cm), and pots of any kind, so it’s a great plant for container vegetable gardening

    I just pour seed in a row and step on it and I have had it germinate. I don't cover with a lot of dirt.

    My granny used to tell us when we were kids to plant lettuce in a row that was as deep as your thumb.
  • I just grow various lettuces and spinach in clay pots - just keep well watered. I just use kitchen scissors to trim off what I want for my salad and it just keeps growing.
