My asparagus beds are overridden with weeds...what can I do?

My asparagus beds are overridden with weeds, so much so that the asparagus can't grow. In lieu of starting over from scratch, is there anything I can do to make them fruitful and multiply again?

We have used rock salt and it gets rid of weeds and not asparagus.
We did that one year and the deer loved the salt, and then the asparagus!
Salt your asparagus bed! Kills the weeds, but not the asparagus!
