After the plant has gone past the cutting stage use 2 in of grass clippings
We have used rock salt and it gets rid of weeds and not asparagus.
We did that one year and the deer loved the salt, and then the asparagus!
Salt your asparagus bed! Kills the weeds, but not the asparagus!
