How do I get the most plants on a small patio?

I live in an apartment with side divider walls on each side of my patio. I would like to plant flowers, herbs and a few vegetables. It gets great sun. The patio is 12x12.

Use old ladders,plant stands,or a bakers rack.

Depending on how hot it gets, I would use clay pots to try different types of plantings.
Have you considered vertical gardening. there is something on the marked called wooly pockets which are connected to walls. Look in your grdening catalogs for ideas.
