How to sow house plant seeds?

I just started buying house plants. I love them so much, I want to start buying seeds to learn the life cycle of a house plant. I have tried the paper towel seed starting method and I only got three seeds out of fifty to sprout. I tried sterilizing the soil and using bottle water to start the seeds and those got a fungus infection. How do I grow plants from seeds?

Put the seed in about 4 to 5 inch container. Be sure the soil is damp and don't plant them too deep sprinkle them on top and press down with your hand. Keep the soil moist but be sure you have drainage and don't drown them. When they are about 3 inches high repot to larger container. We use to own a green house and this is the way we transplanted seedlings. Good luck

South facing window,on top of frig???How could anyone know your lighting with that response.Sorry but it appears you do not have the seedlings in the proper lighting and for the future more information should be given.

I live in California so a south facing window gets sun from sunrise to about 5:00 pm. And on top of the frig because of the heat that the frig is suppose to give out. Like I said I am a beginner on plants and seeds. Thank you for your time.

  • You will get the hang of it, just takes a little trial and error. And a bit of patience. Peggy's suggestions are great, I sort of do the same and it is a lot of fun, I am always trying to grow something from a seed!
