I'm always looking to add a little greenery to my house and this time I wanted to incorporate something different rather than just a house plant. After being inspired by checkerboard moss decor, I decided a monogram would suit my style! So, off I went to the garden center. The best part? I used an old baking tin for the base and it works perfectly!

NOTE: Live moss varies in price, so be sure to do your research as some garden centers offer it much cheaper.
Step 1) Flip your baking pan over and nail several small holes into the bottom of the tin. This will be used for drainage.

Optional: I chose to paint my tin with an antique/rustic style finish. I used chalk paint in antique white.
Step 2) Fill the base of your tray with river rocks.
Step 3) Next, cover your rocks with a thin layer of potting soil.
Step 4) Take your moss out of it's container. Pull off atleast half of root area and extra soil.
Step 5) Separate your moss into small cubes. Mine were about 2x2". Trim the foliage along the sides and across the top, so it resembles a square.
Step 6) Place each moss cube into your tray. Be sure to pack it in tightly with soil.
Step 7) Continue placing your moss cubes into the tray and alternate moss types/color to form your monogram. I used two different shades of Irish Moss.
Step 8) Once you have completed your monogram, trim along the sides of the tray and even out the moss on top so it is all one length.
I have an entryway table that has been missing a touch of color for quite some time now. This was the finishing touch it needed!
Just continue to trim the moss as it grows.

I'm thinking this might be a good idea for growing microgreens indoors. What do you think?

Want to try but what do you place under it to catch moisture if you have drain holes?

I love this idea but I think I'll use fake moss. I've not had much success growing the real stuff. Lol
