List of items needed to make this project:

Spindle for mounting the bird house on.
Paint
Bird House
Flower Planter
Potting soil
Flowers
A piece of Re-bar if sticking into the ground.

I saw a picture of a bird house attached to the top of a banister. It was just stuck in the ground. I wanted to put my own spin on it and make a flower planter out of mine.

I bought a spindle and painted it white. I used a good spray paint for this project.

I bought a unfinished bird house from the craft store and painted it white. If you want this bird house to be a decorative bird house only, then over the hole.
I painted flowers on the bird house using craft paint. I applied butterfly decals to the roof of the bird house. After the paint dried, I applied a clear coat spray varnish on both the banister and bird house.
On the end of the spindle, a hole was drilled large enough to slip over a piece of re bar.
A piece of wood was cut to use as a base for the bird house and screwed on to the end of the bspindle.
A nail was used to poke holes in the base to help the glue stick to the bird house.

The bird house after it was glued onto the base. If you don't want to use wood glue, you can use nails.
A hole was drilled in the bottom of the planter large enough to fit over the piece of re bar that was hammered into the ground to give the banister stability. The piece of re bar can be any length you want it to be. Our yard is rather rocky, so the re bar was cut the same height as the planter since I wasn't going to insert the piece of re bar very far into the ground. If you plan to move your planter around, then you can skip this step.
The spindle was placed over the piece of re bar. If there is too much movement after the banister is in place, remove the banister and wrap a piece of tape around the re bar. Keep adding tape until there is little movement when touched. Place the banister over the re bar, and add more dirt in planter and fill with flowers. I love how it turned out.

If you are going to make the planter portable, and leave out the rebar, why not place another square base on the bottom of the spindle? That would give more stability to the birdhouse and spindle. Also, I think there was a little blip in your directions concerning the birdhouse hole. Did you mean, cover the hole if you don't want birds nesting inside? I wonder what would cover it very simply. Lovely idea. Best wishes 😇
