Don't! Worms are like lungs of the earth. They aerate the lawn or garden, fertilize the best way, and do absolutely no harm. Why would you ever want to get rid of them?
Why would you want to? They keep your lawn healthy and green
Worms are a blessing - if you want to decrease the quantity contact a garden club and share some.
People buy worms to add to their garden to keep the soil loose and enrich it. But, I am presuming they are your normal garden variety. If not, take one to your garden center and ask to speak to "the boss". He or she can identify it and tell you the best way to get rid of them.
KEEP THE WORMS!!!!
Worms are your gardens best friend, supply drainage and air, decompose leaves and are a sign of healthy soil. Boost their numbers!
Earth worms are great for a yard and garden. But if you have grubs that is another matter. Never get rid of earth worms. When I lived in SC, I actually bought worms and scattered them throughout my big yard to improve the clay soil. I bought good top soil and put mixed it with the clay soil to help get our yard started and to plant my landscaping and flowers in. Then I bought a lot of big earth worms. I am from Indiana and was raised on a small farm, so I knew the importance of lots of worms in a yard and garden! Never kill worms. They are their weight in gold to make a nice yard and garden!
I have talked to Master Gardeners, county extension agents, etc. They all tell me moles love earth worms. I KNOW they are good for your yard but the moles are starting to undermine the foundation of my home. I don't care how many I kill - just need to know how and what to use. Grub control is a joke as is poison peanuts and everything else on the shelf - makes no difference at all. If I can ever get rid of the moles I will buy all the earthworms I can find. This has gone on for over 30 years and we have spent a fortune on this never ending battle.
