More Than a Paint Job a Fabulous Furniture Flip.

Easy
I've been giving my dining room a much-needed makeover. In my dining room was a really really useful but rather boring cupboard. I needed to give this cupboard a serious transformation so that it could become a fabulous feature piece of my new dining room.
This transformation involved 3 distinct phases. The first was, in fact, the paint job. I used Annie Sloan's Red Emperor's Silk chalk paint.
For those of you not familiar with chalk paint, it is fabulous stuff as very little prep needed before painting. No sanding or undercoat needed just a wipe down. Perfect for impatient DIYer's like me.
When I first painted the cupboard with the chalk paint the colour wasn't looking very regal or red more pinky. However, I wasn't worried as with chalk paint the magic happens when you add the wax finish.
I used a dark wax to seal my chalk paint and this transformed the colour to a lovely antique red.
The next stage of the transformation was the decoupage on the inside. I used a gorgeous gift wrap paper of vintage insects by Cavallini.
I used 3 sheets in total. Details are on the blog at the end with a link to the gift wrap.
The final stage of this furniture flip made the cupboard totally unique and personal. I added some decals to the glass doors.

This is so easy to do you can buy printable window cling (see here). All you need to do is design what you want on your computer in a program like word and then print onto the decal paper (mirror image) and then peal off the backing and stick to your glass.
I printed Armstrong as that's our family name and the No5 as there are 5 of us.
I now love my cupboard and how it has turned out. It looks fantastic in my newly updated dining room.

This wasn't my first cupboard transformation you should check out my craft/cupboard transformation.

Why did you take out two of the shelves and only leave one shelf in? I thought the porportions of the cabinet beforehand was really balanced. Interesting finish, loved the lining paper.

I like what you did. I might have gone with a different wallpaper - Black pinstriped but I applaud you putting it out there. Well done!
