What a Difference a Weekend Makes! Exterior Changes on the Guest Shed

A couple weekends ago, we made a few exterior improvements to the shed we are converting to a bedroom for my step daughter. It'll also be a guest house for my parents when they come to town. There's a one minute time lapse video of what all we did over those 2 days in the blog post.

The number one priority was a new roof. The shingles were crumbling, the OSB was rotting in a couple places and the roof didn't match the new roof on the main house.
After patching where the roof had rotted, it was time for new architectural shingles.
That evening, we built board and batten style shutters and window boxes.
We're adding a wider set of steps this week but I think with the changes we've already made, the transformation is pretty dramatic. What else do you think we should add?
This is how the shed looked just 3 weeks prior! I hope you follow along as we continue to make interior improvements on the guest shed. We're documenting it all on time lapse video for Hometalk and will share it on reveal day!

So great!! How about A/C and heat?

  • Thanks, Kelly! We already had a portable A/C that we use in our garage. We can use it in the shed or garage when needed. Instead of running the exhaust out the window, we put an outlet it so it runs out the wall near the floor. I'll show how it looks in the reveal. We have a slim profile wall heater picked out that we'll buy in the fall. Jason went ahead and installed a plug in where it will be mounted. There's already a huge difference since the shed's been insulated.
