I have heard that if you go to your local hairdresser/barber shop and ask for their hair clippings and then scatter those around the perimeter of your yard that it keeps deer away. I've never tried (nor had to) but apparently it is a trick that is supposed to work.
Try grating a bar of Irish Spring soap and sprinkle in the areas you don't want the deer to eat.
great question! I had tried everything but nothing really worked. Then I heard about Irish Spring soap. The deer and rabbits don't like the smell. I went to the store and got the soap, got home and there I was looking at bars of soap and not real sure what to do with it. I ended up going to Lowes and getting the green wire tomatoe stakes. They are about 2' tall and have an open circle bent into the top. Then I walked over to the terra cotta pots. I needed something to put the soap in and that would fit in the circle on the tomatoe stake. The 4" dish (that holds a 4" pot )would be perfect.
Now to put it all together for you... take the stake and push it down I. The ground just below the height of your plant. Rest the dish in the circle of wire on the stake. Now take the bar of soap and cut it into 1" slices. Place one or two slices of soap in the dish. It stopped the deer and rabbits from eating my plants! Enjoy your garden!
The disposable tin cooking pans work. It's startles the critters. Poke a hole in each pan we use the small round ones and tie a knot and around a stake and spooks them When they hit the stakes.
Judymgibbs. What an interesting and thorough tip!
