I have a beautiful wisteria "bush"- when should I trim it?

It has gotten a little no a lot out of control. When is the best time to trim it and how far down can I cut it without killing it.??

    You will be to wait until it finishes blooming.They will tolerate a heavy pruning.

    You should trim wisteria in mid/later winter. Then again in summer, two months after it has bloomed. You can take it down about 2 inches in winter. Be sure not to prune your buds.

    In the summer, prune back all long side shoots to about 6 inches. You may have to cut the whip like shoots back several times in the summer.
